Frequently Asked Questions

What is an international student?
An international student is any student who is not a U.S. citizen or permanent resident of the U.S. or its territories.
Where can I find information about U.S. regulations?
Stay connected with the current rules and regulations that shape the nonimmigrant student process in the United States at studyinthestates.dhs.gov.
How do I apply for a visa for this program?

The first step to applying for an F-1 visa is to apply for, and receive admission to, the academic program of your choosing. Start by submitting your application, and an enrollment counselor will contact you quickly to walk you through the full process for international students. We will need to receive official transcript evaluations from your previous academic work, and a bank statement proving that you have the funds to cover the costs of living and studying in the U.S. for one year.

How do I have a foreign transcript evaluated and sent to TNU?

All previous university work done in a foreign country must be evaluated by a NACES member organization. For a complete list of possible evaluators, visit www.naces.org/members. Trevecca recommends using Spantran, and they have a specific portal for TNU applicants: spanside.my.salesforce-sites.com/SpantranApplication?Id=b6e09210-deae-4555-acac-a24fab75d4f6.

You will need to place an order and submit payment for the transcript evaluation to the company of your choosing. Official transcripts should then be sent via email or mail to the evaluating organization, according to their instructions.

Transcripts not in English will need to be accompanied by an official translation, per the instructions from the evaluation company.

Once the evaluation company receives all necessary documents, they will perform the evaluation and send the result to Trevecca.

What bank statements do I need to submit?

If you are admitted to a program at Trevecca, and are seeking an F-1 visa, you must submit a bank statement showing sufficient funding for one year of living and studying in the U.S. The cost will vary by program, and your enrollment counselor will provide you with the exact cost needed. The bank statement can be emailed, but it must show clearly the name of the bank, the statement date (within the last 6 months) and the amount available.

What is an I-20?

If you have been admitted to Trevecca and have demonstrated proof of funds, you will be provided with an I-20 form from the University. The I-20 is a document that you will need in order to apply for your F-1 student visa. When you have your I-20, you will be able to apply for the visa through the U.S. embassy or consulate nearest you.

What is the I-901 SEVIS fee?

The I-901 SEVIS fee is currently $350, and is a fee from the United States government for F-1 visa applicants. This fee must be paid before you can obtain a visa interview at the U.S. embassy or consulate. You will need your I-20 form and SEVIS ID number before you are able to pay this fee. Further instructions will be provided by your enrollment counselor at TNU.

I am already in the U.S. studying with an F-1 visa. How do I transfer my I-20 form to Trevecca?

First, you must apply for your program of interest and receive admission to the program. You must also submit certification of finances. Once these items are completed, we will provide you with a form that you can give to your DSO at your current university, which verifies your plan to transfer to Trevecca. The DSO at your current university can transfer your I-20 record to Trevecca. You will be given a new I-20 from Trevecca this time. You do not need to change your visa or return home for this process.
