Frequently Asked Questions
How do I apply?
You can apply for free here! All items with a red star (*) next to them must be completed before you can submit an application.
Here are some tips for completing fields on your account creation form and application:
- High School: If you cannot find your high school, make sure to select “School Not Found” (make sure to include a graduation date, this box will pop up after clicking the “School Not Found” button.
- Zip Code: These are only required for US students, make sure to check the box that indicates your address as international to avoid having to fill this in
- Entry Term: The ONLY terms that we admit students for are ones for Fall and Spring. DO NOT SELECT A SUMMER TERM
- State: Select ‘International.’
What is a transcript evaluation, and why do I need it?
As per our admission requirements, all international transcripts must be evaluated by a credential evaluation service that is a member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES) before they can be considered for admission. Trevecca partners with SpanTran to perform evaluations so we can adequately distribute academic scholarships. You should expect to order a SpanTran evaluation for your partial transcript and final transcript unless you have already graduated high school. We can only accept transcripts without evaluation if your school is listed as one of our Partner Schools.
If you have already done a World Education Services (WES) evaluation, you can also have these sent to Trevecca. Please note that these are our preferred evaluation services, but you may choose any other NACES member that suits your needs. Please also note that we do not provide access codes for the evaluation services and you are required to pay for the evaluation.
The evaluation report must include the following information:
- A course-by-course evaluation of your transcript (required for Transfer students and high school students with college credits)
- The U.S. equivalent of your degree
- The U.S. equivalent of your grade point average (GPA)
My country is English-speaking. Do I still need to submit an English proficiency score?
How do I submit these scores?
The final requirement before we can make an admittance decision is your English Proficiency test result. We have several ways to do this, so please pick the best option for you.
- Duolingo: This offers the most immediate results and is convenient to your schedule and location. Trevecca requires a minimum score of 110.
- TOEFL: This exam can be taken at a testing center on a computer. It takes about three hours. Trevecca requires a minimum score of 79.
- IELTS: This exam must also be taken at a testing center. It takes a little less than three hours. Trevecca requires a minimum score of 6.5.
- ACT: The ACT test covers English, math, science, and reading. The method of test and the length of time can vary. Trevecca requires an English score of 20.
- SAT: The SAT test covers reading, writing, language, and math. The method of test and the length of time can vary. Trevecca requires an ERBW of 480.
These are the ONLY ways to prove English proficiency. A letter from your school is not able to be used. Once you take the test, you can have your scores sent to Trevecca by the test provider. Once this result and your transcript evaluation are received, we will be able to evaluate you for admittance.
Do I need to submit an SAT or ACT score?
While SAT submission is not required, it can be very beneficial for you to have taken the test and submitted your scores to Trevecca. There are three primary reasons we strongly recommend international students to submit their SAT scores:
- Depending on how you score, you can potentially open up higher academic scholarships. Our most elite scholarships require both a fantastic GPA and SAT score
- International students are required to submit English Proficiency test results. If you score a 480 or higher on the English Based English and Writing (EBRW) section, you will not have to submit any other kind of test result to count towards your English proficiency requirement.
- As a Trevecca student, you will be required to take an English and Math placement test once you are on campus. This is so that we know what difficulty of classes to put you in. If you submit an SAT (not the digital SAT) we will be able to place you without any additional testing.
Submitting SAT scores is simple! There are two different ways to submit them.
- The first way to submit SAT scores is through the College Board Website.
Trevecca’s code is 1809 - Your high school should have a copy of your results. If you cannot send them digitally through the above instructions, you can reach out to your high school administration to have them email your results to admissions@trevecca.edu. This cannot come from the student’s email address.
There is a 5-business day processing time from when we receive the results to when they will be posted to your account. Please allow for ample time before expecting the scores to show on your account.
What is a Certification of Financial Support?
Do you offer “full tuition” scholarships?
Do international students receive scholarships? How do I apply for them?
How can I schedule a meeting to discuss my financial aid?
Discussing your financial package with a financial aid counselor is a requirement of our admissions process for international students. After being admitted, you will receive an invitation to meet with a financial aid counselor. They will discuss your scholarships and the final costs of Trevecca. Bring all your financial questions to this meeting as this is the best time to get quick answers and clear any uncertainties.
Why do I need to submit a bank statement?
The "Proof of Funds" is a document that Trevecca must keep on file as proof that you are paying to attend school in the USA. This proof of funds is generally given to us in a bank statement or letter. It must include your parent or sponsor’s name and proof that the funds in the bank account are enough to cover one year of school. Send this document via email to intladmissions@trevecca.edu.
What is a Certificate of Financial Support (CFS), and how do I submit it?
The Certification of Financial Support is a step in the requirements to receive your I20. This document also obtains your parent/sponsor’s information for proof of funding. Once you send the proof of funds to Trevecca, they will complete a document called the “Certification of Financial Support” and send it to you via email. You will open this document, fill out the sections you are instructed to, have your sponsor sign it, and then email it back to your admissions counselor with your passport photo page.
What immunization records do I need to submit?
All international students are required to submit their vaccination records to our clinic before an I20 is created and released to the student. This is a federal requirement. Please refer to our website for more information on the vaccinations that we require. Additionally, these records must be sent to us in English. If you do not have one or more of the vaccines we require, please make every effort to obtain them in your home country. This is required for all students, freshmen and transfers. You will not receive your I-20 until we have your complete vaccination records.
Where do I pay my enrollment deposit?
Your enrollment deposit is your final requirement to getting your I20. This enrollment deposit is refundable until May 1 for fall start dates and December 15 for spring start dates. This $200 enrollment deposit will ensure that your spot at Trevecca is reserved. When it comes time to submit your deposit, you will receive a link via e-mail.
When will I receive my I20?
After we have received all required documentation and your enrollment deposit, we can issue you an I-20. As a reminder, the things required are listed below:
- Proof of funds (bank statement)
- Completed Certification of Financial Support
- Photo of Passport ID Page
- All immunization records
- $200 enrollment deposit (after all other items are received)
After you have submitted all these documents, we will complete an I20 and send it to you. If you require an expedited visa request letter, make sure to request this.
How do I get a VISA appointment? How do I prepare for it?
Each country's visa requirements differ, so research what you must do to schedule a visa appointment. Helpful information can be found here. First, complete the DS-160 (Online Visa Application) to schedule a visa appointment. Do not forget to check Appointment Wait Times and Application Fees. One thing that is consistent is that you will need to click the link sent to you in the email with your I-20. You will need to pay a SEVIS fee to receive a SEVIS number. You will take this number and use it to schedule your visa appointment. Requirements for your visa appointment vary country to country, however you will need your I-20 in your hands when you walk into the embassy. You may also need your Certification of Financial Support, proof of funds, admittance letter, and scholarship letter. Other recommendations for what to prepare can be found here. Make sure to research what is needed in your country well before your visa interview. Visit this website for more information.
I have my VISA! Now what?
Make sure to let us know when you receive your visa so we can continue to prepare for you to arrive on campus. Now you can focus on things like your flights, roommates, housing and final steps! Once you are here on campus, you will report to Student Development’s Global Engagement Office.
I didn’t get an approved VISA. Now what?
It is entirely up to the consulate to decide if they believe you would be a good fit for education in the USA. Please seek professional help in your current country to determine the best course of action for you.
What should I expect during move-in?
Trevecca is located only 15 minutes from the international airport. Trevecca does not typically offer shuttles to campus. Typically, the safest and most reliable mode of transportation to campus from the airport is to use a rideshare app. We suggest Uber or Lyft. Move in day for international students happens before every other student moves in (aside from Resident Assistants and some sport teams). You will be given a dresser, bed, desk, chair, and a bookshelf, so you can expect to need to bring bed linens, a pillow, school supplies, and anything that you might want to decorate with. International student move in day changes year to year, so pay attention to your e-mail for more details. It is important to note that once you move into your dorm room, you will be expected to sleep there. If you are wanting to explore Nashville with your family, you must book a hotel before your move in date and explore on your own. Your F-1 visa will allow you to enter the US up to one month before you are required to move in, so if you and your family would like, you can come a few days early to explore and get some things from the store that couldn’t make it on the plane here.
What will my orientation experience be?
Once you move in, expect to be very busy with learning about your F-1 status, how to stay in status, and what college will be like on Trevecca’s campus for an international student. The first two days will be getting to know the Office of Global Engagement, your international student peers and adjusting to the time change if necessary. Generally, all freshman, including US citizens, will move in a couple days after you move in, so be prepared for campus to fill up quickly! You will be busy every day after orientation, so please plan to be on campus and attend every session.
